Lu Chuntao was born in Chongming Island, Shanghai, in 1965 and studied art at Shanghai International Studies University from 1984 to 1986. He is currently vice principal of the Shanghai Calligraphy and Painting Institute, visiting painter at Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy, member of the China Artists Association and the board of directors of the Shanghai Artists Association. His uninhibited use of water and ink, reveal his deep understanding of traditional concepts of using ink to represent color but also are in full command of the concepts of contemporary abstract expression.
Lu Chuntao has had solo and group exhibitions at the Casares Museum, Italy, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Singapore, the Taipei World Trade Center, Taiwan, the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center, Korea, the National Agriculture Exhibition Center, Beijing, the Art Museum of Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy, Shanghai, the Shenzhen Museum, Shenzhen, the RNHR Tower, Cologne, the Mannheim Museum, Mannheim and the National Art Museum of China, Beijing. He has been invited to exhibit at many contemporary ink exhibitions worldwide including the 7th Shenzhen International Ink Art Biennale, Shenzhen.
